In the first episode of The Simmonds Signal podcast, I chat with TedX storytelling coach, Dan Manning. Dan went from working in the military to helping multi million dollar founders raise money with the help of powerful storytelling.
My 3 Favorite Takeaways
Here’s my 3 favorite takeaways from the episode, plus the timestamps so you’re free to skip around:
Ideas are worthless until they are communicated effectively. As an idea’s man, this is something I haven’t stopped thinking about—cue my existential crisis.
Storytelling isn’t about solving problems. It’s about relieving pain. We all have problems with no urgency to solve—such as my need to buy new socks. But you go to the dentist with a toothache and you might happily pay thousands to have your tooth removed.
Social media storytelling requires a different approach than traditional storytelling. Screw the heroes journey. We aren’t writing fiction. Focus on relatability and pain relief if you want to connect with your audience.
