If you’re a writer who wants full control over when you work, what you work on, and how you live your life—this is for you.
Everyone wants the freedom that comes with earning on the internet.
But few know how to get it.
They search for remote jobs and never find one that truly fits their lifestyle, values, and interests.
Because a job means building someone else's future, not your own.
If you actually want freedom, you don’t search for it.
You create it.
I know, because I’ve done it.
Over the past three years, I’ve created three different jobs for myself on the internet.
Each gave me a different kind of freedom—some more money, some a better lifestyle, some both.
I'll break down what they were, how much I made, and the simple steps to get started today.
If you’re serious about making six figures as a writer on the internet doing work you mostly enjoy, keep reading…
1) Become a Content Copywriter
The job that's made me over $1,000,000 in the past 3 years.
Most people have heard of copywriting.
Using sentences the way Obi-Wan Kenobi waves his hand: “You do want to click that buy button… you do want to give me your email…”
But few have realized the medium has changed.
First it was print ads. Then radio. Then TV. Then email. Now social media content.
Which is why copywriting is no longer the most lucrative opportunity.
Content copywriting is.
Write content, not sales pages
Charge monthly rates, not per project
Focus on retaining a few $3,000 /mo clients, not acquiring many new $500 one time clients
In 2024, the content marketing industry was estimated to be around $600 billion.
By 2032, it's forecast to grow to $1.9 trillion.
Become a content copywriter to capture a piece of that trillion dollar pie.
How to Get Started:
Learn to capture attention with scroll stopping hooks
Use crazy statistics, bold claims, urgent problems.
Learn to connect on attention through storytelling
Ask questions but delay the answers.
Learn to convert on attention with sales psychology
Offer a desirable transformation plus scarcity and urgency.
Stack those three microskills and you’ve got yourself one of the most profitable remote writing careers you could ever create.
2) Consultant/ Service-Based Business Owner
Sell your expertise your way on your own time.
Instead of selling your time working for a company per hour, you get paid for your knowledge and skills directly from clients you acquire.
This allows you to immediately make more per hour.
Because you're no longer splitting the pie with your boss or a company. You can now get paid what your time is truly worth.
But that's only if you can package your existing expertise into a valuable offer. And attract your own clients for much less than they pay you.
That's why you need to learn content copywriting.
It allows you to attract clients for free by writing persuasive content.
I've proven this myself.
This year alone, I've made around $80,000 consulting on how to build a one person ghostwriting business.
And around $164,000 with my service-based business: social media ghostwriting.
All from clients who found me through content.
How to Get Started:
Identify the service you already do well (what you’re paid for in your job is a great starting point)
Learn content copywriting (capture, connect, and convert on attention)
Choose a platform—LinkedIn, Substack, or Instagram—and start publishing content that shows your expertise and attracts clients
Do this, and you’ll have the foundation for a service-based business that pays you what you’re truly worth.
3) Newsletter Ghostwriter (The Introvert’s Paradise)
Many writers hate writing social media content (including me most days).
The algorithm changes
The surface-level posts
The pressure to sell your soul to trends or risk becoming irrelevant
They’d prefer to write with depth, share longer stories, and still make a great living.
If that’s you, newsletter ghostwriting might be the perfect path.
Instead of creating content, you help clients grow and monetize their audiences by writing one to three newsletters per week.
I’ve had clients pay me $3,000 per month to do this, and many ghostwriters charge $3,000–$6,000 plus commission once they can guarantee results.
So done right, this can easily be a $10,000 per month job (that's quite fun).
But here's the thing…
Clients will only keep you around if you make them more money than they pay you.
So you have to master copywriting and sales psychology.
Without it, you'll always struggle to keep clients and earn a stable living.
How to Get Started:
Learn copywriting—The Adweek Copywriting Handbook is my personal recommendation for beginners
Learn YouTube scriptwriting to master retention-based writing
DM potential clients on social media and offer to write their newsletter for free, only charging a commission if your writing makes them money
Your first clients don't raise your purchasing power.
They provide you proof.
And once you have proof, you can raise your rates and start stacking $3,000 per month retainers to buy your freedom.
And There You Have It
You started this newsletter looking for a way to make $10K /mo writing on the internet.
Not by searching for a better job, but by creating your own.
One that gives you full control over when you work, what you work on, and how you live your life.
Now you’ve seen the 3 real paths I've personally used to do this.
Content Copywriting
Newsletter Ghostwriting
Consulting / Service-Based Business
Follow through on what you just learned, not just for a few days… But for a few years.
Play the long game. Build something meaningful.
And you’ll be the one designing your career and living life on your terms.
PS. If you want more freedom over your time, location, and income…
The exact 4-month roadmap I used to land my first $10K as a social media ghostwriter is inside Growth Ghost.
It’s the system that lets me:
Work from Australia for the next three months
Take 10,000-step walks through the city on my lunch break
Earn a living doing work I actually enjoy
